Tucson Area Book Clubs

A new school year has started, making now the perfect time to find after-school activities for your children – activities that are not only educational, but fun. Tucson Family took a look at some of the local book clubs for kids, and we bring you the details on what’s happening in the literary world – for the Harry Potter set.

Perhaps one of the most refreshing book clubs we found was started by Julia Brown, age 9. She started the club a little over a year ago with only minimal help from her parents, and currently reports about 7 members. "We each take turns picking a book for the club to read – it has to be about a third or fourth grade-level book, with not too many vocabulary words," she says. The club meets at Bookman’s NW location - 3733 W. Ina, every Saturday from 9am – 10am. In addition to the meetings, the club has field trips, sleepovers, and all night reading sessions. The book for September was not decided when Tucson Family went to the printers, but Julia was pretty sure it would be something about horses. "The girl who’s turn it is to pick, loves animals, and we are looking for a book about horses right now." For more information about the club, phone Julia @ 744-4126.
