Don Steinman: The cowboy with email
Don Steinman is the owner of the Redington Land & Cattle Co. ranch, which is located about 40 miles east of Tucson. He is a soft spoken but dynamic man who has left Wall Street behind to live the uncomplicated life of a rancher. He and his wife, Barbara, have lived on the Redington ranch for about 8 years. Visitors to the ranch are welcomed with Dons description of the amenities: "We dont have any fancy swimming pools here. If you want to get wet, you can jump in the river, sweat, or take a shower." When I visited with Don, the river had less than 6 inches of water in it, so I guess he figured on the last two alternatives.
Numerous articles have been written about Don Steinman, and his unique change of careers. He grew up on the East Coast, and as a successful businessman, visited Las Vegas on vacation. Las Vegas bored him, so he rented a car and drove to Tucson and toured the surrounding area. He returned for several more vacations, and then Don decided to buy a ranch. He returned to the East a couple of times after buying the ranch, but he had found his home, and was here to stay. When Dons children were grown and in college, his wife decided to move back east and Don felt such roots to the area that he stayed behind. He met his soulmate, Barbara, when she came to ride at his ranch. They fell in love, and together developed his first ranch into a thriving business.
