When Dons first ranch became too mainstream, Don again moved west. He bought an abandoned little ranch in the mountains, and restored it to its original homestyle appeal. Don has the wandering, solitary heart of a true cowboy. Always looking for adventure or a new idea, he will continue to work to share the spirit of the Old West with visitors from the city. But if you move to close to him, he might just move away.
Since ranching doesnt always pay the bills, Don does what typical ranchers did in the 1860s. He has extra people come and stay on the ranch and help out, or pay to play there. He has succeeded in making a thriving business out of being a cowboy, and when you meet Don, you have no doubt but that he was always a cowboy at heart. He enjoys showing visitors his country and way of life, and doesnt mind adding a little ecological responsibility to his stories. He minimizes chemical use on his ranch, and his wife grows over 80% of their vegetables.
Area residents know Don as the master storyteller. He performs at many local events, and can tell a story about almost anything. He is humorous, and has an understated sense of humor. I got the feeling that Don views all the attention to his way of life the greatest story of them all. After all, what irony to escape the big city, only to have it come to you.
