New York Stock Exchange

With origins that reach back to 1792, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is the oldest and best-known exchange and the most difficult one on which to be listed. NYSE companies tend to be well-established firms, industry leaders expected to continue as such. The average public company cannot be listed on the NYSE, which requires a minimum initial market value of between $60 million and $100 million. NYSE's requirements help to ensure that the companies listed on the exchange are stable and that the exchange will enjoy a high trading volume.
