Apple Picking Time
By Michele Benoit Slawson
Illustrated by Deborah Kogan Ray
(Dragonfly Books Crown Publishers, Inc. 1994)
In this delightful book, Anna goes apple picking with her family. She is bigger this year and wants to be able to pick a whole bin by herself. Children of all ages should delight in the tale of how Anna and her family go to the orchard to pick the fruit, enjoying their family outing and getting their purple tickets punched once for every bin they have picked. At the end of the day, Anna and her family take their purple tickets to the orchard cashier who pays them for their work.
To Anna, apple picking is a happy time with hot chocolate and lunches under the trees, crisp mornings and warm fall afternoons. During their lunch break, Anna even gets to dance with Mama and Papa with their friends and neighbors clapping and encouraging. The illustrations enhance the story by providing warm, fall glows to the pages of the story. Adding to the books appeal, there are several activities and a recipe for Apple Crisp on the inside covers. This is an enchanting book to celebrate the fall season in your house.
