all about tutors

Club Z! sends a tutor to your home who works with your child one-on-one. The first hour is free, and the tutors are all teachers. Strong guarantees that you will find the tutor easy to work with, and accommodating of your schedule. If, for some reason the tutor is not able to meet with your child regularly at a time that is convenient for both of you, or your child and the tutor are not compatible, Strong will send another tutor at no cost. The cost is $35 per hour, with substantial discounts for bulk packages, paid in advance.

When Your Child Needs More

Sandy Kennedy, owner of the Sylvan Learning Centers in Tucson says that the Sylvan program is different from traditional tutoring, and offers what she calls "supplemental education" for students who are struggling with a particular topic – or even multiple problem areas. "We generally work with children over a longer period of time than a tutor typically would, and offer diagnostic testing as well as the ability to catch up on credits because we are accredited," she explains.

Kennedy is proud to note that Sylvan offers a guarantee to parents that after 36 hours of remedial math or reading work, their child is guaranteed to improve by at least one grade level. She says their averages are closer to two grade levels.
